A fauteuil crapaud – a mid 19th century French Napoleon III armchair, with shapely back and scrolled armrests; mahogany legs and frame.
Re-upholstered using traditional upholstery methods: hand sprung seat; coir and horse hair stuffing; hand stitched. Linen union top fabric; decorative brass nails to front.
Little silver cushion included.

1. Mid 19th century Fauteuil Crapaud ready for repair and re-upholstery.
2. Stripping down to the frame.
3. New hessian to frame / inside back and arms, then first stuffing stitched down.
4. Calico toile fitted and stitched, then stapled and hand sewn to inside back and arms.
5. Webbing to seat; springs stitched to webbing then tops hand tied and lashed down.
6. First stuffing to seat; linen scrim over which is then stitched down. Front edge of the seat is stitched to provide shape and structure. A second layer of horse hair stuffing, then calico over.
7. Fitting the top cloth and sewing piping to outside back.
